About
Peter Bray is a Senior Carillonist at the National Carillon in Canberra, Australia, and his passion for the carillon has taken him across the world. Following the completion of an honours degree in music from the Australian National University in 2022, Peter graduated from the Royal Carillon School “Jef Denyn” in Mechelen in 2023, and embarked on a journey in the summer that saw him performing concerts throughout Europe. In 2024 Peter played a concert tour in Europe again with the theme: Passion Through Bronze - an Australian Carillonist’s Perspective.
Peter began his musical journey at the age of six with piano lessons, and over the years, his love for music has only deepened and expanded. In 2019 he was a finalist of the Queen Fabiola International Carillon Competition an subsequently nominated as a semifinalist 7 News Young Achiever Award, QPRC Performing Arts Award.
Peter believes in performing music that resonates with everyone, from the timeless compositions of Bach to the iconic melodies of Star Wars thereby creating a unique and meaningful experience for each individual in the audience.
Beyond his performances, Peter strives to contribute to the carillon community. He serves as the Carillon Society of Australia Secretary and on the World Carillon Federation Executive Committee. As part of his studies, Peter composed two carillon focused theses, "The State of Carillon Tremolo" and "George Howe OAM – Innovation through Improvisation." These projects allowed him to delve deep into the nuances of carillon performance and explored innovative approaches to repertoire and technique.
